Ecomab

Due to increased pressure from Health and Safety Officers, plus the growing awareness relating to the respirable dangers associated with Ceramic fibre, which is used extensively in the manufacturing of thermal textile products, Europes leading manufacturer of ropes, webbings, packings and cloth, 'Keramab' have developed high temperature (1050°C) fibre that is completely safe and hazard free.

This product is to be marketed under the Ecomab brand by the GMS Company in the UK.

ECOMAB is available in boards, blanket, paper, and a complete range of textiles

Technical Specifications

Description

Ecomab® is a man-made mineral fibre. It was invented in 1992 as a result of work into the development of fibres with higher solubility in tests with simulated lung fluid (Gambols Solution). Initial lab tests (1) indicated that the solubility of Ecomab® compared very favourably against other commercially available man made mineral fibres and was over a thousand times more soluble than Crocidolite Asbestos. Independent solubility studies of both Refractory Ceramic Fibre and Ecomab® have been recently completed at the university of Aachen (2) and these also showed the solubility of Ecomab® to be much greater than that of RCF. The dissolution rates were monitored for various fibres in continuous flow experiments with solution pH values of 7.4 (1) and 8.0(2) with the following results

Furnace and Kiln Seal

Ceramics fired in kilns are transported through the oven on kiln cars, on rails. Each kiln car is pushing the car in front. During firing, the high temperatures reach and damage the chassis, the wheels of the car, and the rails.

To avoid this the space between the kiln cars needs sealing. This seal also avoids false air, from under the the kiln cars, reaching and disturbing the firing area. False air means a loss of energy, irregular temperatures, quality decline, false and weak firing, less oven efficiency and more environmental pollution.

The ECOMAB® Kiln seal has a soft resilient core and mechanically strong overbraiding, thus combining flexibility and wear resistance.

The kiln car seal is placed in a nut at the bottom of the car, the bolt of the following car pushes into the seal, thus sealing the space between the two cars.
