THERMAPAD is manufactured to protect from flame damage and scorching areas surrounding soldering operation. THERMAPAD will withstand the heat from a blowtorch under normal conditions. As the temperature required to solder a capillary joint is half the melting point of the outer fabric (600°C) only by subjecting the pad to temperatures above normal plumbing conditions would premature surface breakdown take place. Even after surface fabric damage occurs the infill will prevent any thermal transfer (the infil withstands temperatures of 1260°C).
The life of the pad is determined by the heat intensity and concentration on a given area, therefore, should the pad surface start to glow at the point at which the flame makes contact, we suggest repositioning the mat allowing unheated areas to be used.
For the past three years our company has been supplying our 'Flexible Labmat' throughout Europe, but has yet we have not marketed this product in the UK. We are now looking for distributors who would be willing to stock and supply to schools, laboratories etc. This product meets European Quality Assurance specifications, certification of which can be supplied on request.
The GMS Company have for the past fifteen years manufactured the patented Thermapad Plumbers Pads and Mats. This range has been sold through most DIY outfits, who in many cases use their own brand names.
The Thermapad Labmat is manufactured from high temperature glass fabric, which is able to withstand up to 1000°C, contains no hazardous materials and meets current European health standards.
A secondary coating is applied to the surface making the mat resistant to most chemicles and acids, plus improving spillage absorbency of up to twice the product weight.
A Thermapad Labmat measures 250mm x 250mm and is supplied bagged with header. Other sizes are available if required. Headers can be printed with your company name and wording required, however, Labmat EQA specification would be advised.

GLASS KNITTED SLEEVE (Code GS) For temperatures up to 550°C
Available in bore sizes from 10mm to 80mm. High Flexibility, elastic construction making product simple for protecting irregular sections, bends, elbows etc. Low fray ends makes easy cutting. The 3mm thick wall can be multi-layered where extra thickness is required. Uses: Foundry, steel mills, potteries, brick and glass works etc.
SILICONE COATED GLASS SLEEVE (Code SGS) For temperatures up to 550°C
Available in bore sizes 10mm to 80mm. Slightly less flexibilty and reduced elasticity than Glass Knitted Sleeve, but has much improved wear resistance and excellent hot metal spash resisitance. Uses: As above.
EXPANDAGLAS BLACK GLASS SLEEVE (Code EXPS) For temperatures up to 550°C
Available in sizes 2mm to 50mm. Light wall, multi-diameter sleeve. Suitable where irregular diameters are a problem e.g. Connectors, joints etc. Uses: Automotive, domestic appliances and electrical insulation.
KERASIL WOVEN SLEEVE (Code KS) For temperatures up to 750°C
Available in bore sizes 8mm to 60mm. A heavy grade sleeve which has higher temperature resistance than glass. Very good wear resistance. Uses: As glass.
KERAMAB CERAMIC WOVEN SLEEVE WITH INCONEL WIRE (Code CS) For temperatures up to 1260°C
For applications where extreme, long term temperature protection is required. Also available without Inconel wire, where electrical induction would present a problem.
ECOMAB SLEEVE (Code ES) For temperatures up to 1000°C
Specifications and uses as per ceramic, but meets European Health Regulations being a body soluble fibre. Specific literature is available upon request.
